GULFSTREAM NAMES JIM GALLAGHER ENTRY-INTO-SERVICE PROGRAM DIRECTOR FOR THE ALL-NEW GULFSTREAM G650
SAVANNAH, Ga., April 17, 2008 –Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has appointed Jim Gallagher to lead the Gulfstream G650 Entry-Into-Service (EIS) program. Gallagher will develop and implement a plan for bringing the all-new business jet to market in 2012. Based in Savannah, he will report to Jim Dempsey, director, Planning, Scheduling and Programs, Gulfstream.
As EIS program director, Gallagher will coordinate with Gulfstream departments and suppliers to establish the processes and support systems that will ensure a smooth market delivery for the aircraft. Gallagher also will identify opportunities to ensure G650 dispatch reliability, availability and performance goals are met.
Gallagher has extensive experience readying business jets for their entry into service, having previously served as the EIS program manager for the Gulfstream GIV, G350 and G450 aircraft.
In addition to his new EIS duties, Gallagher will continue as Aircraft Health and Trend-Monitoring System program director, a position he was appointed to in April 2007. In that capacity, he develops systems to record and analyze aircraft operational data from the company's current and future aircraft fleets. The analysis of that data enables Gulfstream to adjust model-specific maintenance plans to increase aircraft reliability, reduce unscheduled maintenance and improve aircraft support.
Gallagher joined Gulfstream in 1985 and has served as the Enhanced Vision System (EVS) program manager, special missions program manager for Swedish and Japanese government programs, and director of marketing strategies for the introduction of the GV and GIV-SP aircraft.
He earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Manchester in England, a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University and a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from Georgia Southern University.
Gulfstream introduced the ultra-large-cabin, ultra-long-range G650 on March 13. The all-new jet offers the longest range, fastest speed, largest cabin and the most-advanced cockpit in the Gulfstream fleet. It is capable of traveling 7,000 nautical miles at 0.85 Mach or 5,000 nautical miles at 0.90 Mach. Using an advanced aerodynamic design, the G650 has a maximum operating speed of 0.925 Mach, which will make it the fastest civil aircraft flying.
Gulfstream expects to begin G650 customer deliveries in 2012. Based on the aircraft development schedule, the company projects it will receive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Type Certification and validation by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA) in 2011. First flight of the aircraft is scheduled for the second half of 2009.
