NEW GULFSTREAM G450 RECEIVES TYPE CERTIFICATE FROM
FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION
G450 Joins Ranks of G500 and G550 as New Breed
of Business Aircraft; Customer Deliveries To Begin
in Second Quarter of 2005
SAVANNAH, Ga., Aug 12, 2004 Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today received a Type Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its new large-cabin, long-range Gulfstream G450 business-jet aircraft. With this certification, Gulfstream remains on schedule to begin customer deliveries in the second quarter next year.
Gulfstream introduced the G450 less than a year ago at the 2003 National Business Aviation Association's Annual Meeting and Convention, held in Orlando, Fla. At that time, the G450 was expected to receive FAA certification in the third quarter of 2004.
"We made the commitment to our customers that we would have the G450 certified before October 1, and here we are - August 12 - and we've accomplished that goal with time to spare," said Bryan Moss, president, Gulfstream.
The long-range G450, like its ultra-long-range sister ships, the G500 and G550, and the new mid-range G350, features Gulfstream's exclusive PlaneView cockpit. A technologically advanced flight deck designed to significantly reduce pilot workload,
PlaneView was developed by pilots for pilots. With Gulfstream's Signature Cursor Control Device and large, easy-to-read flight displays, pilots use point-and-click technology to access the status of onboard systems or to update flight information.
"G450 passengers, especially those on long intercontinental flights, will appreciate the relaxing cabin atmosphere with three temperature zones, ample light streaming through 12 heated signature oval windows and 100 percent fresh air," Moss said.
Developed concurrently, the G450 and G550 are similar aircraft in design. In addition to the PlaneView flight deck, both business jets feature the same onboard systems and the FAA-certified Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System (EVS) as standard equipment.
"The technical and design similarities between the G350, G450, G500 and G550 translate to cost-savings in terms of same pilot type ratings, crew training and maintenance for our customers who operate multiple-aircraft fleets," Moss said.
The G450 was developed by the same internal team that developed the G550 and the G500. Earlier this year, the National Aeronautic Association honored the G550 team with the 2003 Collier Trophy, aviation's most prestigious award, citing its "leading-edge achievement in designing, testing and building an innovative aircraft while incorporating measurable safety enhancements and far-reaching advances in aerospace technology."
"This year may prove to be one of the most memorable yet for Gulfstream," Moss added. "Since February, we introduced the G350; received the Collier Award for the G550; received the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Type Certificate for the G550; and now, the G450 has been certified by the FAA. And it doesn't stop there. We anticipate receiving Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) and EASA validation of the G500 and G450 in the next few months and FAA type certification for the G350 before the end of the year."
