GULFSTREAM DELIVERS SIX GOVERNMENT/SPECIAL MISSION AIRCRAFT IN FIRST HALF 2002
Executive Transport and Medevac Aircraft Included in Mix
Farnborough, England, July 22, 2002 - Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), announced today at a Farnborough 2002 press conference that it has delivered six government and special mission aircraft in the first six months of 2002.
In the comparable period last year Gulfstream delivered four government and special mission aircraft, while the total number of similar aircraft delivered during 2001 was eight.
Since 1958 Gulfstream has produced more than 1300 business jet aircraft, of which approximately 10 percent have been adapted for government and special mission applications.
To date this year, several different special mission capabilities were integrated into the mix of Gulfstream V aircraft which were delivered to the United States Air Force, the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defence. In each case, the GV was determined to be the favored platform to adapt for missions ranging from secure executive transportation to medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) applications.
More than 30 countries worldwide operate Gulfstreams, including 23 nations that use the aircraft to transport their heads of state.
"Gulfstream's unique integrated government programs office works closely with each customer to establish how the proven performance and reliability of the GV platform can meet a wide variety of government and military requirements," said Buddy Sams, senior vice president, government sales and marketing, Gulfstream Aerospace. "In particular the GV's exceptional high altitude, endurance and range performance, matched with its substantial payload capability and low operating costs make it an obvious choice for operators worldwide."
The Gulfstream V, with its nonstop 6,500 nautical mile range and speeds up to Mach.885, is designated the C-37A by the U.S. Air Force. It has served in the fleet of the President of the United States since October 1998. The winner of the 1997 Collier Trophy, awarded by the National Aeronautics Association, the GV has established more than 70 world and national aviation records. The in-service fleet has logged more than 170,000 hours, with a dispatch reliability rate in excess of 99 percent.
