GULFSTREAM INTRODUCES SUPER MID-SIZE G200 AND MID-SIZE G100 BUSINESS JET AIRCRAFT AT PARIS AIR SHOW
General Dynamics to Integrate Recent Galaxy Acquisition With its Highly Successful Gulfstream Aerospace Subsidiary
Paris, France, June 17, 2001 - Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), announces the introduction of its two newest aircraft: the super mid-size Gulfstream 200 and the mid-size Gulfstream 100. The Company will position the Galaxy and the Astra SPX in its fleet of business jet aircraft as the Gulfstream 200 and Gulfstream 100, respectively. Gulfstream now offers an entire fleet of business jet aircraft that meets a broader variety of mission requirements ranging from 2,950 to 6,750 nautical miles.
General Dynamics completed the acquisition of Galaxy Aerospace Company, LP, on June 5. Galaxy's management and operations are being integrated with those of Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation.
"The Gulfstream name is synonymous with high-performance business jet aircraft that
offer the best combination of cabin size, performance and reliability in their class," said Bill Boisture, General Dynamics executive vice president, and president and chief operating officer of Gulfstream. "By introducing this new series of Gulfstreams, we are continuing that legacy and expanding it to the super mid-size and mid-size classes.
"The Gulfstream fleet of ultra-long-range, long-range, super mid-size and mid-size
aircraft will be supported by the company's award-winning maintenance and service and support network," Boisture said. "In the last five years, we have more than tripled the number of Gulfstream Service Centers worldwide. In fact, Gulfstream Aircraft Services and General Dynamics Aviation Services own and operate 10 service centers in North America." General Dynamics Aviation Services was formed earlier this year to meet the maintenance needs of Challengers, Falcons, Gulfstreams, Hawkers and other business jet aircraft.
The G200 is the first of the new generation of super mid-size business jet aircraft to come
to market and the first to enter operation. Launched well ahead of its competitors, the G200 offers the longest range, the largest cabin and the best balanced overall performance and price in the super mid-size business jet aircraft category. Capable of flying 3,620 nautical miles at speeds of up to .82 Mach, the G200 cruises at altitudes of up to 41,000 feet.
"The G200's cabin is very spacious, similar in size to the Gulfstream II," said Joe Walker, Gulfstream's senior vice president, worldwide sales. "The lower ambient noise levels, better air circulation and natural light from the generous windows make the G200 the world's most luxurious super mid-size business jet aircraft."
The G100 is the best performing mid-size business jet ever built. Capable of flying 2,950 nautical miles at speeds of up to .84 Mach, the G100 cruises at altitudes of up to 41,000
feet. "In keeping with the Gulfstream tradition, the G100 is the longest range, fastest mid-size business jet aircraft available in its class," Walker said. "It enables customers to experience the Gulfstream tradition of best-in-class in a mid-size aircraft."
Israel Aircraft Industries will manufacture the G200 and G100 at production facilities in
Tel Aviv, Israel. With nearly a half-century of experience in the aviation industry, IAI is a
recognized leader in the research and development of next-generation technologies that it employs on products ranging from high-performance business jet aircraft to space systems and satellites.
When assembled, "green" super mid-size G200s will be flown to Gulfstream's 165,000-square-foot, modern completion center at Alliance Airport in Texas for the design and installation of interiors and optional equipment. Initially, the G100 will continue to be completed at Duncan Aviation in Lincoln, Nebraska.
"When we began to explore opportunities for expanding the Gulfstream fleet," Boisture said, "we placed a high priority on aircraft that share the Gulfstream philosophy of using advanced technology to build safe, reliable, productive and comfortable aircraft. Both the G200 and the G100 uphold that Gulfstream tradition. I am confident the G200 and G100 will add their own great chapter to the Gulfstream story."
Westwind aircraft will be supported by General Dynamics Aviation Services.
