Gulfstream Offers Wireless LAN Option For GIV-SP And GV Business Aircraft Cabins
Farnborough, U.K., July 24, 2000 -- Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), is offering a sophisticated wireless Local Area Network (LAN) for installation in its aircraft cabins that will enhance passenger communications, productivity and entertainment. The system will be available for new and in-service aircraft beginning in 2001.
The LAN will permit passengers to link their laptop computers with others in the cabin and connect via a LAN server, a mail server and a printer/multifunction fax without wiring.
"We believe this will be an extremely popular option for Gulfstream customers seeking the latest in airborne office utility and communications," said Joe Walker, Gulfstream's senior vice president of worldwide sales. "The LAN also positions Gulfstream owners to take full advantage of proposed satellite-based, high-speed data solutions to further enhance communications and entertainment options from direct broadcast satellites. Gulfstream will offer the most advanced office environment in the sky."
The airborne LAN is a wireless design that will offer users the same functionality found in a land-based installation. The LAN offers instantaneous connectivity, full data encryption if desired, data sharing and removable mass data storage media.
"Gulfstream provides the best cabin environment in the business and the wireless LAN keeps us at the forefront," said Walker. "The new cabin electronics options further separate Gulfstream from the competition."
The Gulfstream IV-SP and Gulfstream V cabins are renowned in the industry for their combination of luxury and efficiency. The Gulfstream V is the only ultra-long range aircraft to offer a maximum cabin altitude of 6,000 feet and a 100 percent fresh air cabin ventilation system. The Gulfstream IV-SP has a maximum cabin altitude of 6,500 feet. The cabins are also the quietest in the large cabin market and provide the most ambient light through Gulfstream's unique oval windows.
The Gulfstream V and IV-SP cockpits offer the most advanced avionics suite available and with the Gulfstream V, the largest displays. The Gulfstream V will add to its technology leadership by offering the Enhanced Vision System (EVS) for increased safety in night and poor weather operations. EVS is the first such application of this technology in all of aviation and is exclusive to Gulfstream. All of these features result in safer, more versatile aircraft, with superior cabin comfort for passengers, allowing them to arrive fresh and ready for business.
